Data Retention & Permanent Deletion Policy

7-Day Grace Period

Your account will be deactivated immediately. However, to prevent accidental loss or unauthorized requests, your data is securely retained for a period of 7 days (1 week). During this window, you can contact support to cancel the deletion and restore your account.

Permanent Removal

After the 7-day grace period, all your personal information, account history, conversation data, and stored documents will be permanently and irreversibly deleted from our active servers. This includes all documents in your Personal Vault, Smart Link sharing history, and account preferences. This action cannot be undone.

Excluded Data

Certain data may be retained for a longer period only if required by legal obligations or to comply with regulatory financial reporting requirements (e.g., transaction invoices, payment records). This data is kept in anonymised form where possible and is not used for any purpose other than legal compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I delete my Binding Docs account?

Sign in at app.bindingdocs.com, click your profile icon, go to Account Settings, scroll to the “Delete Account” section, and click the delete button. Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm. You can also request deletion via the mobile app using the same steps, or by contacting support@bindingdocs.com if you’re unable to access your account.

What is the 7-day grace period?

After you submit a deletion request, your account is deactivated immediately but your data is securely retained for 7 days. This protects against accidental or unauthorised deletion requests. During this window, you can contact support to cancel the request and fully restore your account. After 7 days, deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed.

What data is deleted when I delete my account?

All of it. After the 7-day grace period, the following is permanently removed: all documents in your Personal Vault, Lewiz AI conversation history, Smart Link sharing history, Smart Reminders, account settings, and all associated metadata. The only exception is data we are legally required to retain, such as transaction invoices and payment records, which are kept in anonymised form for regulatory compliance.

Can I download my documents before deleting?

Yes, and we strongly recommend it. Before initiating deletion, go to your Personal Vault and use the “Export All” function to download a complete ZIP file of all your documents. You can also download individual files. Once permanent deletion occurs after the grace period, we cannot recover any documents.

What happens to documents I shared via Smart Links?

All active Smart Links are disabled immediately when your account is deactivated. Recipients will no longer be able to view shared documents. However, any documents that recipients previously downloaded to their own devices remain outside of Binding Docs’ control.

Do I need to cancel my subscription separately?

No. Your subscription is automatically cancelled when you delete your account and no further payments will be charged. If you simply want to stop paying without losing your data, consider downgrading to the Free plan instead of deleting your account.

Will I get a refund for unused subscription time?

Partial refunds for unused time on your current billing cycle are handled on a case-by-case basis. Contact support@bindingdocs.com if you believe a refund is appropriate. No further charges will be made after the deletion request is submitted.

Does Binding Docs keep or sell my data after deletion?

No. Binding Docs operates on a zero-knowledge architecture with AES 256-bit encryption. We never sell, share, or provide your personal data to any third party. After permanent deletion, your data is removed from active servers. Encrypted backup copies are automatically purged within 30 days and are cryptographically inaccessible during that period.
